I return from Swecon in Uppsala – as well as signings for the SF bookshops in Stockholm and Malmo and for Fantask in Copenhagen, and I had a blast – not to mention signed a few hundred books. I even managed to do a little work on the very pleasant five hour train journey from Stockholm to Malmo, and have a look round Copenhagen, which is a great city. My enthusiasm for Scandinavia remains undiminished. My thanks to the organisers of all the events, the staff of all the shops, and the folks who came out to see me or get books signed. Also great to meet Peter Watts, Caitlin Sweet, Kelly Link, Sara Elfgren and Mats Strandberg, among other authors, all fine writers and excellent company.
No rest for the wicked, though, as I’m off on UK tour from next Wednesday. Only six days til Red Country hits UK stores, people…

Mines pre-ordered. Giddyness is involved.
Hi Joe!
Glad that you enjoyed Scandinavia! You are wellcome back whenever, so long as you have a new book with you that I can get signed. 🙂
Just kidding! It was great to meat you, and I hope i get another chance to do that. My signed books are standing proudly in my little library behind a glas door for protection.
Hope you will be back soon! Ivana
Hur är du Mr. Abercrombie? Har du en trädgård gnom? And that’s the extent of my Swedish!!
Welcome back. Be seeing you next week sir!
I’ll see you Friday sir!
My head nearly exploded with anticipation when I read ‘6 days until’! Thankfully, I was able to keep it together.
It was awesome having you here! If someone questions my right to speak for all of Sweden… they are probably right in doing so, but I thought it was awesome having you here.
This might be cliché but I thought you would be taller. But then again you were a lot friendlier than I expected so it evened out in the end.
How exciting is it knowing that the whole world is eagerly awaiting something you have created?
It was great meeting you in Uppsala! And you still have the best beard in the business ;D
Hey Joe, you have a book tour dates page? Hoping you make it to the U.S. eventually (please come to Chicago!) and want to keep an eye out.
So what work did you get done ? Material for a new book…
Hey Joe,
Pre-ordered RC and can’t wait. I pre-ordered from waterstones, but i haven’t seen anything about the ‘waterstones exclusive’ version, and their customer service said they didn’t have any. Is the exclusive version sold out, or is there some other problem? Or does it require some sort of secret handshake to buy an exclusive edition?
Thanks
Ray
I heartily endorse Adam A’s suggestion. It’d be great to get my copy of Red Country signed if you are in NYC, should that ever occur.
You are by far the most entertaining writer I have read in a long time. I will be ordering your book from the UK and have it shipped to the US cause I refuse to wait any longer to read Red Country.
“Truly, life is the misery we endure between your novel releases.”
Hope your tour comes to the states when it gets released over here.
It was great fun to meet you in person and I totally agree that Swecon was well organised and a pleasure to attend. Although some of you out there might see it as a bit unfair that we in Sweden got to lay our grubby hands on a copy of ‘Red Country’ a bit earlier than the rest of the world, I can assure you that it is well worth the wait 🙂
Cant wait. Got 2 on order! 1 signed/1 not. Will you be doing a US tour for it?
No US touring this time around, and nothing planned in the immediate future. Scandinavia, UK and Australia will do for the time being…
Red Country was great. Don’t want to ruin your image or anything, but it was far from cynical but actually quite a lot about good and evil, courage and cowardice, even God or his abscence, wasn’t it? Damn good in any case. Fantastic characters as usual, they stay with you after.
Six days! Can hardly wait! I bet it’ll be ace!!!
Well you better get on that dishonored game in your down time man, its good. Its like playing the dark brotherhood/thieves guild quest line but its own original feel. I’m hoping you write a review for it for us to gawk over.
Looking forward to your book by the way, paying extra to have it shipped from UK so i don’t have to wait another month.
I have been asked to find out where and when you are touring the UK .. dates/venues.. sorry if you’ve already put this somewhere I have no clue and if anyone could direct me to the right place I would be grateful.
Those lucky folks who live in Brussels can pop along to Waterstones on Boulevard Adolphe Max and buy a copy (HC or TPB) today!
Mind you, the downsides are a) paying an inflated price due to VAT and b) Being in Brussels
Mimi,
If you click the little appearances button at the top left there in the categories window, a post should come up a couple down about the UK tour.
I’ll be counting down the days until your Liverpool appearance. Nay, counting down the seconds1
Well done Joe… You are a superstar.
Yeah, it really was great to have you here in Sweden, and thanks for being so rewarding to interview! Now I’m just hoping your Swedish publisher will buy The Heroes, too – it’s been so much fun translating your previous books.
Hope you had a good time in Malmö and that you got a chance to visit the restaurant ominously dubbed “Bastard” – also big thanks for signing my book, and by the gods, what a great read it’s been.
Your books really do it for me, they’ve got it all, I am always deeply impressed by your ability to tell a story featuring violence and violent characters in a fantasy setting and somehow still cram in a lot of content that makes me reflect upon bigger issues such as the society of today and what role a character like one out of your books would have in it.
There is of course a wild variety of specifics and bits I enjoy in your books, and you do not disappoint with the storytelling either, I think you made the entirely right call in regards to how you handled Lamb throughout the story, keeping me on the edge of my seat all the way to the last page.
Looking forward to the next read, and thinking about going back to re-read the previous books.
Thank you for providing us with enjoyable and thought-provoking entertaining reading, cheers.
