I note that some fiend has uploaded the Book Show interview I did with GRRM to YouTube. Naturally, I entirely condemn such outrageous behaviour. But I suppose there’s no way I can stop people watching it HERE and HERE…

Thanks for the links. You sounded quite thrilled with the idea of a grim, seedy, filthy, cynical world.
Interesting to hear of George RR Martin’s desire to mingle history and fantasy. Parts of A Song of Ice and Fire do sound reminiscent of Roman or Byzantine power struggles. Game of Thrones could be seen as the 69AD of Westeros, perhaps.
Any chance of a First Law TV series?
@Thasseus: actually, /A Game of Thrones/ is inspired by the War of the Roses (15th century England).
great loved it but when are you going to tell use what you guys talked about over dinner???
Lets cut to the chase here Joe, just how much of that book did you get to read before security prised it from your grubby mitts?
@Dan Cook: I believe Joe called the book a ‘prototype’ which may mean that it was just a display prop and that the pages were blank.
But if I’m and Joe got to sneak a few pages of reading in… then that would be bad-ass.
I loved that you managed to work in the Cameron ‘dance of dragons’ into the interview, that was genius
Been waiting to see this, so appreciate the link.
I liked the comment underneath that your voice wasn’t as arrogant and in your face as the viewer had expected.
Next time try doing the interview in the style of Black Dow, see how that goes over.
Thanks for the links. Gnaaar. This year at last the next book.
Hi Joe, I’m watching it at the moment, that’s excellent stuff – congratulations ! I’ll put the link on Pygmalion website and Facebook page. Best, Thibaud.
Hey! It’s Mariella Frostrup. Do you remember when EVERYBODY used to fancy her?
Marin’s work is perhaps a touch too grim for me.
GRRM is so adorable with his turtle story. I want to climb in his lap and tug on his beard and ask for another story.
Martin’s also got the videos up on his blog.
Great stuff J+G. I don’t have Sky so its a long wait for the boxset!
Hopefully HBO will ride the fantasy wave with a The Blade Itself adaptation…. ;0
well it looks like HBO is doing a pilot for American gods so that will be there next Fantasy
No big deal showtime will need a something to compete with American gods and we can hope it will be The First Law
Groovy voice over!
Just watched that interview,i found it very interesting and can’t wait to get the whole series when it’s out on DVD.
On another note, has anyone seen there is a Game of Thrones game on the way?

Looks pretty cool, if you like Total War games etc…
I’ve never seen GRRM before. He’s is the cutest man! He’s like a garden gnome. I want one. And I would mind a dashing Abercrombie action figure either.
JenMo,
I’ve already got dibs on GRRM, but you can have him on football days and when he’s sick provided you enforce his P90X exercise regime and get him home in time for his broth and cabbage. If you leave him in the garden for any length of time, tie him off away from any damp patches and put on his straw fedora. And DO NOT let him near the turtles, for God’s sake!
Thaddeus,
Martin has said somewhere that ASOIAF is mostly based on the War of the Roses.
But AD 69 would make a good foil for a Fantasticorical, too. 🙂
Great interview. I look forward to the day when a younger writer interviews Joe Abercrombie in anticipation of the cinematic or televisual adaptation of The First Law.
I would be more anxious if I found was to interview Joe Abercrombie rather than George RR Martin next week! Martin seems much easier!
Turtle recall.
Hey Joe, great interview! Just wondering what shirt you were wearing during the interview?

@ Joe Abercrombie
Well Joe, I’m so glad that “fiend” uploaded that Book Show interview. If it hadn’t been for that, I wouldn’t have this zeal to read everything you have ever written. So, thank you for that “fiend”, if he or she is happening to read this blog! It is fans like that “fiend” who can make sure that books and reading will matter amid other distractions of today.
