First Law Graphic Novel Print Collection

June 4th, 2014

So much stuff has been going on of late with Half a King that I’d entirely forgotten something else which turned up recently – the physical collections of the first four issues of The First Law Graphic Novel.  An unforgivable omission, because I tell you what, they are things of some beauty and elevated production standards:

Four issues in the collection, which was adapted from Joe Abercrombie’s seminal work of modern fantasy fiction by Chuck Dixon, so over 90 full colour pages:

Though there are currently no new pages forthcoming, you can still see the full first four issues, free of charge, over at the website, but the physical edition includes a bunch of Andie Tong’s pencils and character designs annotated by me, plus some pages showing development from pencils, to inks, to Pete Pantazis’ colours AND an introduction from my old mate Peter V Brett.

You can order the collection either from amazon.com or directly from Blind Ferret.  Sorry to say there’s no direct distribution outside of North America on this one, so if you did want to order from the UK or elsewhere, delivery might be a little steep…

$7.98 shipping from amazon.com to United Kingdom, not a biggie, have placed my order for this one, can’t wait. I am going to have to stop following you on facebook, I am spending too much money lol 😉

  • Unai says:

15.50$ shipping to Basque Country. O_O

Will be available at Bookdepository someday?

  • Joe Abercrombie says:

Sorry guys, without the support of the big international print publishing industry, distribution can be a little bit of a bitch. In this case it pretty much is what it is with the physical copies. You can download the four issues via comixology also, mind you.

  • John says:

The Amazon review says the series has been discontinued? Is that true or are there more issues on the way?

  • Joe Abercrombie says:

    John,
As I say, no new pages for the foreseeable future. It’s possible there will be more but very far from certain. For now, this collection represents all there is.

  • Huy Nguyen says:

Wow, this is wonderful. But with only a few chapters out and an uncertain future, it will hard to gain new comic readers. However, as a big fan of the First Law series, I will definitely purchase these.

Anyone know the ISBN for the Graphic Novel? I can’t find it on Amazon.com

Hey, Mr. Abercrombie. I’m a huge fa of yours. Just curious, you ever think of writing a Western? That’s my next favorite genre next to fantasy and it could use some revitalization. You’don’t be just the man for the job.

    I’m not “old”…

  • Joe Abercrombie says:

    Peter V Brett,
Compared to my only-just-left-school-whole-life-ahead-of-me 39 you are truly ancient.

I HOPE YOU HAVE FUNERAL PLANS IN PLACE.

  • Kieron says:

Hi Joe, have just ordered my copy, looking forward to the continuation of the series, which will no doudt happen when….. Shit I don’t know. People are bloody weird. I personally thought this was the best thing ever, almost.
Until the clamour rises, I will treasure my copy like a geedy little gnome.

  • Michael says:

  • Colin h says:

Is the graphic novel series available at all at at reasonable price as Amazon seems to be £60 > even for used copies, is this because it is now discontinued as a comic at present?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Colin
